  • FOOD AND RESTAURANT WHERE TO EAT IN VENICE?

Finding where to eat in Venice sometimes is complicated, especially if you don’t have time and you didn’t plan carefully where to go. But why? In Venice (included Mestre) there’re 1,878 restaurants, so an incredible big offer. For any kind of people-customers? No. They are almost all for one kind of customer: the quick eating tourist. This is a kind of customer who became the best target for low quality places:

    • he doesn’t eat more than once in Venice
    • he’s in hurry so no time for writing reviews
    • he came in Venice shortly so he wasn’t planning any place to go
    • but especially he’s…. hungry! he doesn’t pay the proper attention to the menu prices

    THE QUICK EATING TOURIST

It’s much easier to earn money from this kind of customer, while trying to attract longer staying travellers and also local people is more challenging. So the biggest amount of restaurants are providing a very low balance between quality and prices.

HOW TO RECOGNIZE A RESTAURANT FOR QUICK EATING TOURISTS?

This is a guideline not all the time some of this characteristics are automatically revealing a bad restaurant:

    • waiter convincing passerby people to enter (if you’re a local you don’t need to be pushed to enter)
    • an external menu with many foreign languages (this is declaring who mainly are the potential customers)
    • attracting marketing signs in… english (“Home made pizza”, “Good food!”)
    • food pics or plastic models
    • Pasta or pizza signs but no kitchen or pizza oven means refrigerated food warmed on microwave oven

SO THEN WHERE TO EAT IN VENICE?

There’re 2 kind of places where I suggest you to go:

    • the restaurants for locals (and smart tourists) which they try to satisfy their clients, seeking for customer retention
    • the top quality elegant restaurant, maybe also a Michelin-starred one

The first is a genuine way to taste local life, the second is a good way for an unforgettable experience.
